DescriptionL-Sorbose, also known as L-sorbinose or L-xylo-hexulose, belongs to the class of organic compounds known as monosaccharides. Monosaccharides are compounds containing one carbohydrate unit not glycosidically linked to another such unit, and no set of two or more glycosidically linked carbohydrate units. Monosaccharides have the general formula CnH2nOn. L-Sorbose exists in all living species, ranging from bacteria to plants to humans. L-Sorbose is a primary metabolite. Primary metabolites are metabolically or physiologically essential metabolites. They are directly involved in an organism’s growth, development or reproduction. Based on a literature review a significant number of articles have been published on L-Sorbose.
