Common NameCesium
DescriptionCesium, also known as 55CS or cesio, belongs to the class of inorganic compounds known as homogeneous alkali metal compounds. These are inorganic compounds containing only metal atoms, with the largest atom being a alkali metal atom. Cesium is found, on average, in the highest concentration within a few different foods, such as brazil nuts (Bertholletia excelsa), milk (cow), and pistachios (Pistacia vera) and in a lower concentration in coconuts (Cocos nucifera), yellow bell peppers (Capsicum annuum), and almonds (Prunus dulcis). Cesium has also been detected, but not quantified in, several different foods, such as black-eyed peas (Vigna unguiculata ssp. unguiculata), cow milk, cow milk, cow milk, and cow milk. This could make cesium a potential biomarker for the consumption of these foods. Based on a literature review very few articles have been published on Cesium.
