DescriptionAmylose, also known as amylose chain or a-D-mannose, belongs to the class of organic compounds known as o-glycosyl compounds. These are glycoside in which a sugar group is bonded through one carbon to another group via a O-glycosidic bond. Amylose is possibly neutral. Amylose exists in all living organisms, ranging from bacteria to humans. Within humans, amylose participates in a number of enzymatic reactions. In particular, amylose and uridine 5'-diphosphate can be biosynthesized from uridine diphosphate glucose; which is catalyzed by the enzyme glycogen [starch] synthase, liver. In addition, amylose can be converted into glycogen through the action of the enzyme 1,4-alpha-glucan-branching enzyme. In humans, amylose is involved in the metabolic disorder called the sucrase-isomaltase deficiency pathway.
