Descriptionbenzene-1,2,4-triol, also known as 1,2,4-benzenetriol or hydroxyhydroquinone, belongs to the class of organic compounds known as hydroxyquinols and derivatives. Hydroxyquinols and derivatives are compounds containing a 1,2,4-trihydroxybenzene moiety. A benzenetriol carrying hydroxy groups at positions 1, 2 and 4. benzene-1,2,4-triol is an extremely weak basic (essentially neutral) compound (based on its pKa). benzene-1,2,4-triol exists in all living organisms, ranging from bacteria to humans. Outside of the human body, benzene-1,2,4-triol has been detected, but not quantified in, tea. This could make benzene-1,2,4-triol a potential biomarker for the consumption of these foods.
